Iom Romì

Synopsis
IOM ROMÌ chronicles a day in the life of the contemporary Jewish community of Rome, which for centuries has lived in limbo, between waves of acceptance and extreme persecution. Known not only as the oldest Jewish community in Europe, it’s also one of the oldest Jewish groups of the Diaspora. As the only cultural group in the city with a continuous line of descent from ancient times, Roman Jews have fostered rituals and traditions unique in the world. From dawn to dusk, through the voices of several people in the historic Ghetto, we see this beautiful, thriving neighborhood come alive. A testament to Jewish tenacity and survival, this colorful travelogue offers a peak at a microcosm of Jewish-Italian life, both fiercely independent and distinctly Roman. Produced in partnership with Centro Primo Levi in New York and the Jewish Museum of Rome.
