Synopsis
Combining edge-of-the-seat dramatizations with survivor testimonies, THE INVISIBLES brings emotion and authenticity to the little-known story of Jewish teens and young adults who outlasted the Third Reich while hiding in Berlin. Even as the Nazi capital was infamously declared judenfrei (free of Jews) in 1943, some 7,000 Jewish Berliners remained, precariously, wherever they could find safety. Only 1,700 reached liberation, thanks to sheer wits, luck, and the decency of fellow Germans brave enough to protect them. Among them: passport forger Cioma Schönhaus, Ruth Arndt passing as a war widow, the homeless Hanni Lévy who becomes blonde to look Aryan, and Eugen Friede who joins a resistance group. Brilliantly mixing oral histories with striking re-enactments, this unusual hybrid docu-drama offers a powerful and uplifting message of resilience and courage.
